Hi All

I'm really struggling to get the RA under control. It's now badly affecting my walking and the fibromyalgia is making fatigue 10 times worse :(
I was wondering if anyone knew who I can ask for help with completing DLA forms?
I've contacted the local C.A.B but they're less than helpful the minute they find out I'm still working (basically because I have no choice because of bills etc)
Can anyone help?

Thanks
x

Hiya TM ,

Must admit my CAB has limited resources for DLA form filling mainly due to the time it takes.

What aspect are you having trouble with, physically writing? or tips on how to write it ?

If you need help with either it might be worth contacting the Dial Network , who may be able to assist .

http://www.scope.org.uk/dial

Can a friend or family member assist you ?

If there are any carers services local to you and you have someone who cares for you then it may be that they can assist with the form through assistants to someone who cares for you.

If you can type ok and have difficulty writing then you can apply using a pdf form available here a. You can use the online form or use the interactive pdf on the same page.
This could affect the date that DLA will run from .

Practical advice on what to put in the form is here

For basic eligibility rules see here

If you need further assistance just repost here and perhaps give the NRAS helpline a call ..

Hi Rich

Many thanks for this. Mainly I have issues with trying to answer the questions. I have major fibro fog and struggle putting everything in that they need. They've refused me once because they reckoned I didn't need assistance even though I told them that my fella has to do 90% of the household stuff and help me in and out of the shower etc. It just wears me down because it's trying to get through to them how everything is a struggle!
Especially since yesterday's appointment with my Rheumy went worse than I thought. 2 extra diagnoses, an extra medication to take so am now up to 17 pills a day. And trying to hold down my job in between it all...it's all getting too much :S

Aww sorry to hear that S

Definitely try Dial and as your fella cares for you , see if there are any Carer charities that could assist .
The Guidance in the previous post should help as should this link

Key though is getting evidence , including a diary , examples of where you struggle, consultants reports , GP reports , Occ health reports , for both the RA and Fibro and any other diagnoses.

Definitely give the NRAS helpline a ring as they will be able to help 0800 298 7650 .
I take it your work knows about the illness and issues you face and are making reasonable adjustments. There is also Access to Work finance to help you remain in work.

Don't forget if you are turned down you have the right of appeal if you appeal within one month of the decision ( with good cause you can appeal up to 13 months of the decision , however good cause is defined in law)
Good advice now document on DLA appeals

Hope this helps
